TIA: Amazing Faiths Dinner Dialogue
Thursday November 12, 2009
St. Stephens Episcopal Cathedral
221 N. Front St., Harrisburg
6:00 p.m.
The Amazing Faiths Project, developed by the Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston, is a nationwide effort to get people of all faith perspectives talking to each other in meaningful ways. The centerpiece of The Amazing Faiths Project is a set of Dinner-Dialogues, held annually in cities around the United States and other countries. To learn more, see www.amazingfaithsproject.org.
The dialogues provide an opportunity for people to meet people of other faith traditions, to share their experiences and listen to the sharing of others, and to converse about matters of faith and spirituality. The evening will be managed by moderators who facilitate the conversation in a structured way that creates a safe space for all to share and listen. Guests share a meal together and dialogue together with the use of dialogue cards created exclusively for the Amazing Faiths Project, which contain thought provoking questions about the broad themes present in nearly all faith traditions and worldviews.

Fighting Poverty with Faith
This week The Interfaith Alliance is partnering with 33 national faith-based groups in the 2009 Fighting Poverty with Faith: Good Jobs, Green Jobs initiative. We are working to amplify our collective voice to let Congress know that the term "working poor" is no longer acceptable, and that as we shape our new clean economy, policies must be in place to ensure that anyone who works full-time has the means to sustain his/her family. On October 21, as part of the Fighting Poverty with Faith: Good Jobs, Green Jobs initiative we are asking you -our members across the commonwealth- to participate in a national call-in day to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

Watch Video and Sign Petition to Reduce Climate Changing Emissions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Faith in Public Life's online organizing arm, Faithful America, launched a new campaign around the climate bill. They write to tell us that the faith community has been active in the climate debate for years. Now that a bill is close to passage, hard work is being done to make sure that vulnerable communities -- who are already losing their homes, livelihoods and even their families to climate change -- get the support they need to adapt and thrive. You can visit DaySix.org and sign the petition to show Congress they'll be accountable to the faith community for how they treat those hit first and worst by climate change.
Dr. Richard T. Hughes: Christian America?
On Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 Dr. Richard Hughes, Distinguished Professor and Sr. Boyer Fellow of Messiah College, will speak to the Interfaith Alliance of PA on the theme of his recently published book, Christian America and the Kingdom of God. In this book, Dr. Hughes argues that the claim that America is a Christian country is a powerful myth that distorts the meaning of Christianity. The meeting will be held at 7 pm at the Jewish Community Center at 3301 North Front Street, Harrisburg. For more on Dr. Richard T. Hughes, click here.
