TIA-PA Organizes Commemoration of America's Diversity on the Eve of 9/11
On Thursday, September 10, 2009, the eve of the eighth anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, The Interfaith Alliance of Pennsylvania will convene an interfaith commemoration at St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral, 221 North Front Street in Harrisburg.  That evening at 6 pm, Central Pennsylvanians of all religious and philosophical perspectives will join to acknowledge "The Challenges and Opportunities of America's Diversity."

Members of many faiths will participate. This year, September 11 falls within the Muslim Holy month of Ramadan. Throughout the month of Ramadan, Muslims generally fast during daylight hours. Following the ceremony that evening we will be joining with Muslim participants as they break their fast. The public is cordially invited to attend both the Commemoration and the following Ramadan Break-the-Fast dinner at St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral.

PA Budget Cuts Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PA-HRC) is asking for your help to protect the rights of minorities and women in Pennsylvania.
The existing interim budget and ongoing Legislative considerations include drastic cuts that compromise PA-HRC's ability to fight illegal discrimination and ensure equal opportunity in Pennsylvania.  TIA-PA received a letter from PA-HRC, asking that we spread the word that they need you to contact your legislators.  So that you can see the details, we've put this letter on our website:
2010 Evolution Weekend
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2010 marks the fifth annual Evolution Weekend sponsored by the Clergy Letter Project. With participation in each Evolution Weekend larger than the one before it, participants represent a growing movement that dynamically demonstrates that religion and science have much to offer one another. The Clergy Letter Project invites congregations all around the world to celebrated Evolution Weekend 2010!

12 -14 February 2010 -- Evolution Weekend

Evolution Weekend is an opportunity for serious discussion and reflection on the relationship between religion and science. One important goal is to elevate the quality of the discussion on this critical topic - to move beyond sound bites. A second critical goal is to demonstrate that religious people from many faiths and locations understand that evolution is sound science and poses no problems for their faith. Finally, as with The Clergy Letters themselves, which have now been signed by more than 12,000 members of the clergy in the United States, Evolution Weekend makes it clear that those claiming that people must choose between religion and science are creating a false dichotomy.

Through sermons, discussion groups, meaningful conversations and seminars, the leaders listed on http://www.EvolutionWeekend.org will show that religion and science are not adversaries.

If your congregation would like to join this international event in 2010, please send a note to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
