Congratulations! You Had a Victory in Marriage Equality
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another new development is a civil union bill in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to create a state level civil union in which same-sex couples could gain all of the same state benefits as married couples. Civil unions fall short of marriage equality in a few ways, such as Federal benefits, employer "marriage" benefits, and the creation of a second-class citizen status, but they are a step in the right direction.
You can find your Pennsylvania House representative at http://www.pasen.gov [in the top right hand corner, enter your fill zip code - you can also click "help" to look up your full zip code], and then CALL and ask him or her to co-sponsor Pennsylvania's new Civil Union bill, currently being circulated by Representative Mark Cohen. While this bill, if it were to become law, will help with state issues such as the inheritance tax, it would not help in the case of Federal issues, such as Social Security. And it is still a government sanctioned discrimination by having one set of laws for gays and lesbians, and another set of laws for heterosexuals.
You can also find your Pennsylvania Senator at http://www.pasen.gov/, and then CALL and ask him or her to co-sponsor SB 935, Senator Daylin Leach's bill for Marriage Equality.
